On the Lookout for Easy Kid Recipes

There are many, many websites that offer easy kid recipes these days that you should be able to find a site that caters specifically to kids. In fact, the problem is there are so many sites that it's hard to choose which ones to look at. You want to have a few that you can bookmark and come back to again and again so you don't have to start the search process over each time your kids want to explore cooking on the Internet.

Here's some quick things to keep in mind:

What is the main focus of the site? Does it cater to kids or mostly to adults with a small kids section? If it's the latter, then it might not have enough for your children. Some adult cooking websites have tons of great recipes, but they're for adults and aren't always easy enough for kids. It's nice that they also offer a page for kids, but it's like going to a one-stop shop. They may have a little bit to offer everyone, but they don't have a huge section of what you want and your options are limited.

Are the recipes what kids might want to cook? It's fun to look at recipes for a cutesy-wootsy bug made with olives and celery but not a lot of kids like olives and celery. Let's not forget these recipes are really not that easy and are more for the adults to make for the kids, not for the kids to make themselves. So when looking at a website, check to see if the recipes are truly easy.

Does the website offer cooking safety information and definitions of cooking terms? A good cooking website for kids offers explanations. The website is committed to helping kids learn to cook, not just giving them recipes.

Does the site have a way for kids or parents to leave feedback? Is there a blog where you can leave comments? Do they ask for the kids' input, such as requesting their favorite recipes, stories, or funny experiences? Being able to interact makes for better cooking experiences.

Does the website offer anything else? They could give you their favorite links or recommendations since they're in the cooking kids business and should have some idea of what is out there. If they don't, they should at least show an email where you can contact them for help.

Is the cooking website safe for kids? If there are ads on the site, look to see they're sponsored by a reputable company like Google or Yahoo, as that means they've been prescreened so there is no adult content. Check out any links the website owner has included. Many websites can't guarantee that the links are safe as that's not in their control, but they do their best to make sure any links they post are kid-friendly. Check them out before you let your kids wander around the site.
